Subcompact cars like the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and the 2021 Nissan Versa offer zippy performance that pack a lot inside. Which will whip through the streets of Daly City, San Francisco, and San Jose, California, with you in the driver’s seat? To find out, Daly City Mitsubishi culled our research to put together this comparison, so you’ll know.
When you’re interested in variety, get more with the Mitsubishi Mirage G4. It features four unique trims, like the ES, LE, Carbonite Edition, and SE. Meanwhile, the Nissan Versa offers one less, with only the S, SV, and SR trims.
With the Versa, it’s much longer at 177 inches in length and wider at 68.5 inches in width. While this car is not huge, it’s larger than the Mitsubishi, so it’s not going to fit in every small space. To top that off, it comes with a longer turning radius of 17.4 feet, so you’ll detect a decrease in your ability to move into just any space.
For your shifting capability, the Mirage G4 offers either a standard 5-speed manual transmission or the available Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). So does the Versa, but the secondary transmission goes by another name—the Xtronic CVT®.
If you drive the Mitsubishi, it achieves an EPA-estimated 35 city/41 highway MPG, no matter the trim or transmission. The Nissan achieves an EPA-estimated 27 city/35 highway MPG with the 5-speed transmission and achieves an EPA-estimated 32 city/40 highway MPG with the Xtronic CVT®. Neither one tops the Mitsubishi.
Next, we look around the cabin. The Mitsubishi provides you with 89.2 cubic feet of passenger volume. You’ll also get 36.8 inches of rear headroom with an expansive 37.3 inches of legroom in the back.
Less passenger volume comes in the Nissan at a total of 88.9 cubic feet. The rear headroom sees a slight decrease from the Mitsubishi at 36.3 inches. Quite a difference appears for the rear legroom with only 31 inches.
There’s one difference. You can use your phone aboard any Mirage G4 trim with Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™. Unfortunately, not every trim offers the same in the Versa.
